We’re learning more about the devastating effects of plastic on our environment, every piece of plastic ever made still exists on earth to this very day.
In 2015, the world had produced 7.8 billion tonnes of plastic — more than one tonne of plastic for every person alive today. The graph below shows from 1950 to 2015 how much growth plastic production has had in billions of tonnes.
Just How Bad are Straws?
I came across this video on Facebook by The Plastic Pollution Coalition, whilst doing research on plastic straws. It shows a sea turtle with a straw lodged in its nostril, I found it shocking to watch.

How many straws are there in the oceans? There is anywhere from 437 million to 8.3 billion plastic straws on shorelines around the world. Plastic straws are just a small percentage of more than 8 million metric tons of plastic that end up in the ocean each year.
Plastic straws are among the many throw-away products being rapidly manufactured by large corporations, drank with almost every drink and discarded after a few minutes of use.
